Hello, I'm Janet, and I'm so glad you're here. As the founder of Assisted Living Local LLC, I've dedicated my life to something deeply personal: helping families navigate one of life's most challenging transitions with grace, dignity, and hope.
My journey into senior care began in a roundabout way. After working in various capacities within the senior industry over the years, I found myself at a crossroads in December 2023. I had been working under an agency for 18 months when I felt called to step out on my own. With the guidance of a trusted local attorney, Assisted Living Local LLC was born in January 2024.
Truth be told, my initial motivation was quite practical—my daughter and four precious grandchildren had moved to Washington state, and I needed to fund those Delta Airlines trips to see them! But what started as a means to fill my "airline fund" quickly became the most rewarding work of my entire life.
Understanding Your Journey
I became a placement advisor almost by accident. A business associate, who was an executive director at a beautiful assisted living community, suggested I look into this role I'd never heard of before. What I discovered was a calling that perfectly aligned with my heart and values.
What I love most about what I do is that my services are completely FREE to families. I'm compensated by the communities where your loved ones choose to live, creating a true win-win situation for everyone involved. Families receive a patient, compassionate advocate, communities welcome well-matched residents, and I get to do work that fills my soul.

Why This Matters to Me
My approach to this work is deeply personal. My mother passed away on my 38th birthday after years of battling a brain tumor. At the time, I had young children and desperately needed to find 24-hour care for her, but there were no "Janets" available to help guide us through that overwhelming maze of decisions and emotions.
I know intimately what it feels like to need a shoulder to lean on—and sometimes to cry on—during these difficult times. I often feel that my mother would be so proud to see how I'm now able to be that person for other families. My philosophy is simple: love God, love people, and treat everyone the way I would want my own family treated.
Creating Beautiful Moments
Every placement tells a story, but one that particularly touches my heart happened recently in Fleming Island. I worked with a wonderful woman who had been emotionally hurt by a close family member and was seeking not just a new home, but validation and social connection.
On her move-in day, the community staff surprised her with a red carpet entrance complete with stanchions. Every team member welcomed her with applause, personally shook her hand, and introduced themselves. Her family was teary-eyed, and honestly, so was I. It was one of those moments when I knew exactly why I do this work.
Another unforgettable experience came when a former Secret Service Agent asked me to help place his mother. I'll admit, I was nervous about meeting his high standards and handling the family complications involved. Nine months after finding the perfect fit for his mother, he called to invite me to her 91st birthday celebration. That invitation told me everything—not only had we found the right home, but I had become part of their extended family.

While I can help families anywhere across the United States, my heart is particularly drawn to Clay County, especially Fleming Island. I've been a proud member of the Clay County Chamber of Commerce for nearly ten years and currently serve as an ambassador to new businesses. This role gives me a front-row seat to witness the incredible camaraderie among local business owners and public servants—the "can do" attitude here is truly special.
Planning for Tomorrow
If I could share one piece of wisdom with every family, it's this: aging is a natural part of life, but it's not inexpensive, so it's never too early to plan ahead. Get your legal affairs in order and start envisioning what your next chapter might look like.
Today's assisted living communities are vastly different from those of 20 years ago—they're vibrant, engaging places where people truly thrive. I encourage you to tour a few, even if placement isn't immediately needed. Knowledge is power, and familiarity breeds comfort.
And here's a gentle suggestion for both seniors and their adult children: showing kindness means decluttering, sorting, and sharing items that are no longer needed now, while you can enjoy seeing others benefit from them. When grief comes, it's hard enough without the overwhelming task of sorting through a lifetime of belongings.
